Why You Should Book a Maternity Session

Hey there, mama to be! Congratulations! Pregnancy is one of the most incredible experiences in life. But, believe it or not, this isn’t the most challenging part. That comes in a few months when that beautiful miracle joins your family!

It takes nine months to grow a baby. NINE. Long. Months. This is an extremely long season, and to many women, it feels like a lifetime. Maybe you are glowing head to toe, maybe your feet are so swollen you can’t fit into any of your shoes anymore—or your slippers. Truth, I left the hospital in just slipper socks because I was that swollen.

But let me tell you, maternity and motherhood are two of the most beautiful experiences to have in your life. Near the end of pregnancy is often the time when mamas-to-be schedule a maternity session. And you may be wondering if a maternity session is even worth it.

Why do you need a maternity session? What even is a maternity session? Well, we are here to answer those questions and give you a few of the key reasons why you should book a session!

1.  Celebrate Yourself!

You are growing a life. Shouldn’t that be reason enough? Some women will say that they felt the best during their third trimester. Now whether you do or not, it’s a great time to capture the moment.

I didn’t enjoy my pregnancies, personally, for all the reasons under the sun. I passed on the opportunity to take maternity photos, and that’s one thing I’d do differently if I could do it over again.

This is also a great time to pamper yourself! Book a mani, pedi, and maybe throw in a day to get your hair and makeup done. Being 7, 8, 9 months pregnant and standing at the bathroom counter to curl your hair and put your makeup on is hard work. Splurge on yourself and hire someone to do it for you.

2. Every pregnancy is different.

Pregnancy is a true miracle of life, and no two pregnancies are the same. As a mama, you may want to look back and see how you carried Lily versus how you carried Thomas. Maybe you carried high versus low, or you started to show very early with your second pregnancy. Taking a moment to remember each pregnancy and how unique it was is what we hope to capture for you.

3. #memories

A friend once told me she thought she was adopted because she never once saw a photo of her mama pregnant with her. Could you imagine? There was a point in history where it was commonplace for women to hide their bumps and many women still do today because they feel uncomfortable with weight gain or how they look in their clothes. Now here this—you are gorgeous, and these are memories you’ll want to share with our babies one day.

4. Truly once in a lifetime.

For many of us, we understand that pregnancy is not a guarantee. This can be a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Maybe you thought that you would never get to this point, that it didn’t seem possible. Celebrate! If this is your first baby, last baby, rainbow baby, or maybe you are just going with the flow, celebrate!

5. Your life is about to change.

This is the perfect time to include your spouse, partner, other children, and even your dogs in your shoot. Is this your first baby or your fifth baby? Either way, your family is about to change, and you will want to look back and see how your family has grown over the years.

Here’s what you really need to know!

  • Maternity sessions are typically booked between 32-36 weeks

  • Make it personal by bringing signs, ultrasound photos, baby’s first teddy bear, etc.

  • You will be glowing, no matter what you wear.

This is a time to have fun and be present. Remember, pictures allow us to relive our past and reflect on those happy memories. Make this session about you and your family!

So, do you need any more reasons to book a maternity session?
