Beloved Styled Shoot

I get asked a lot about what I’ve been up to. To be honest, I’ve been really, really busy. I’ve been taking on new clients, new projects and new adventures. But part of that is taking every opportunity to network, learn, fine-tune and practice.

I got the opportunity to take part in a wedding-specific photography workshop and styled shoot last weekend, hosted by Beloved Collective. Basically a mash-up of enviable wedding photographers. But, we all sat together to learn from one another, bounce ideas around and help each other grow in our craft.

We finished the day with a styled shoot—featuring two beautiful newlywed couples. I’m going to be honest here again, I was super jealous. I would love to drag my wedding dress out of its perfectly professionally preserved box and twirl around in the forest with my husband. But we’re five years and two kids into this deal, and the dress probably doesn’t fit.

Styled shoots are amazing. You have access to perfectly dressed and placed subjects. You get to watch and learn how other photographers interact, pose and photograph their subjects. But you also get to share a few of your own secrets to dreamy portraits. In a nutshell, it’s how photographers practice. Running lines on the basketball court (raise your hand if you hear me on this) won’t keep you in peak condition for your clients.

Here are a few of my favorites from my photography wind-sprints.
